Credit outstanding as at the end of January 2016 stood at 10,935.4 billion shillings. This indicates a growth of 13 percent in credit extended to the private sector as compared to UGX 9,637.9 billion credit extended to the private sector in January 2015.
Most of the credit outstanding by end of January 2016 was extended to the building, mortgage, construction and real estate activities of the private sector to the tune of 2,644.6 billion. Other sectors that were provided large shares of the credit include: trade, personal loans and household loans and manufacturing (UGX 2,055.5, UGX 1,668.5 and UGX1,637.3 billion respectively). The sectors that received the least credit were mining and quarrying at UGX 61 billion.
